Oppenheimer

Nolan's trademark visual style is on full display in Oppenheimer, with the film's many technical achievements serving to enhance the story rather than distract from it. The film's use of black-and-white and color cinematography is particularly striking, and the score by Ludwig Göransson is both haunting and epic.

I saw the film in incridable 70 mm film in Imperial at Copenhagen, one of only three cinema's in Denmark, who can project 70 mm films. Great.

The performances in Oppenheimer are all top-notch, with Cillian Murphy giving a tour-de-force performance as Oppenheimer. Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and Robert Downey Jr. are also all excellent in their supporting roles.

My ★★★★★★★☆ (6/8)

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is a complex and challenging film that takes on the story of one of the most controversial figures of the 20th century. Cillian Murphy gives a tour-de-force performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the brilliant physicist who led the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb.He is able to capture the physicist's intelligence, charisma, and inner turmoil with equal measure. The supporting cast is also excellent, with Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr. all giving memorable performances.

However, Oppenheimer is not without its flaws. The film is long and slow-paced, and the non-linear narrative can be difficult to follow at times. Additionally, some critics have argued that the film does not do enough to explore the moral implications of Oppenheimer's work.

Overall, Oppenheimer is an ambitious and thought-provoking film that is sure to spark debate. It is not a perfect film, but it is a powerful and important one.

Pros

  • Cillian Murphy's performance
  • Beautiful cinematography
  • Haunting score
  • Nolan's visual style

Cons:

  • Long and slow-paced
  • Non-linear narrative can be confusing, but I was OK with that.

Overall, I would recommend Oppenheimer to fans of Christopher Nolan and historical dramas. It is a challenging film, but it is also a rewarding one.

Here are some additional thoughts on the film:

I think Nolan does a good job of capturing the complexity of Oppenheimer's character. He is a brilliant scientist, but he is also a flawed human being. He is driven by a desire to create something new and groundbreaking, but he is also haunted by the consequences of his work.

I also think the film does a good job of exploring the moral implications of the atomic bomb. It is a powerful weapon that has the potential to destroy the world. Oppenheimer is aware of this, and he struggles with the decision to use the bomb against Japan.

Ultimately, I think Oppenheimer is a thought-provoking film that raises important questions about the nature of science, power, and morality. It is not a perfect film, but it is a powerful and important one.
